How Confirmation Campaigns Work
What confirmation campaigns are in Reach, how they differ from notification campaigns, and how to set one up for sending to non-subscriber recipients.
Overview
Confirmation campaigns are how Reach sends messages to recipients who are not stored as subscribers. Instead of targeting a category, you provide recipient contact details at launch time in a file. This article explains what Confirmations are, how they differ from Notifications, and how to set one up.
Notifications vs. Confirmations
| Feature | Notifications | Confirmations |
|---|---|---|
| Audience | Stored subscribers in a department and category | Recipients provided at launch in a CSV |
| Launch type | System campaign | File campaign |
| Subscriber setup required? | Yes | No |
| Template approval? | Yes, same workflow | Yes, same workflow |
| Best used for | Ongoing subscriber communication | One-off or variable recipient lists |
| Where configured | Campaigns Configuration Notifications folder | Campaigns Configuration Confirmations folder |
When to Use a Confirmation
Confirmations are useful when:
- Your recipient list changes with every send and maintaining it as subscribers is impractical.
- You need to send a message to a specific group of people who are not part of your subscriber base.
- You are sending a one-time transactional message (e.g., a billing confirmation to a specific account list).
How to Set Up a Confirmation
Step 1: Create a Confirmation group
- Go to Campaigns Configuration and select your department.
- In the left-hand tree, expand the Confirmations folder.
- Click the + button to create a new group (similar to a Category Group for Notifications).
- Enter a group name and click Create.
Step 2: Create a Confirmation
- Click on the group you created.
- Fill in the Confirmation Name, Sequence Number, and Grouping fields.
- Select the channels and providers for this Confirmation.
- Click Update Confirmation to save.
Step 3: Create templates
Templates for Confirmations work the same as for Notifications. Go into the Confirmation in the tree, find the template folders for each channel, create drafts, and get them approved. See below related articles
Step 4: Launch using a File campaign
Once templates are live, launch by going to Campaigns Launch Campaign File. Upload a CSV with recipient contact details and the Confirmation Template ID. See KB-036 for the full file campaign launch steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the same template for both Notifications and Confirmations?
A: No. Templates are tied to the specific Notification Type or Confirmation they were created in.
Q: Do confirmation recipients get stored as subscribers?
A: No. Confirmation recipients are not added to the subscriber database. They receive the message and that is it.
Q: Can I track delivery for confirmation campaigns?
A: Yes. Results appear in Analytics. Search by the campaign name or ID you used at launch.
Q: What is the Grouping field on a Confirmation?
A: Grouping is the equivalent of a Category Group for Confirmations. Every Confirmation must belong to a group.
Q: Can I reuse the same Confirmation for multiple launches?
A: Yes. As long as the templates are live, you can launch a file campaign using the same Confirmation multiple times with different recipient files.
